Fibromyalgia is defined as a non-inflammatory chronic pain syndrome. Symptoms are usually manifested in the muscles and tendons , but other systems can also be affected. Fibromyalgia is characterized by muscle pain specific points of muscular tenderness to pressure at multiple areas. Most patients experience fatigue accompanied by sleep and mood disorders.
There are many theories about the causes of fibromyalgia. Many of these theories illustrate an underlying problem with energy production in the energy-generators of the cells called “mitochondria”. There is typically a problem delivering fuel to the cells, as well as a problem with turning fuel into energy. For this reason, using multiple types of treatment tends to be the best approach. Chiropractic, acupuncture, and diet/nutritional support can be quite effective for reducing fibromyalgia pain. Another very promising type of treatment that has been researched a lot in the past several years is LLLT (Low-Level Laser Therapy).
